About Matt Cree
Attorney and Counselor at Law
While passing the bar in both Indiana and Texas in the same year, I decided early on to stay true to my roots as a Hoosier and remain close to family in Johnson County, Indiana.
For more than eight years, I practiced with one of the largest law firms in the county where I focused on bankruptcy, consumer rights, foreclosure defense and general litigation. In 2015, I decided to make the leap and open the Law Office of Matthew M. Cree, where I continue to provide personal, caring service to those facing the most stressful times of their lives.
In my personal life, I enjoy the company of my family, which includes four dogs and four cats. The menagerie of animals most likely has something to do with my serving as the president of the board of directors for the Humane Society of Johnson County and my inability to say “no” to taking in homeless animals.
I have a deep love for my community and am proud to be a 2010 graduate of Leadership Johnson County. Recently, I had the pleasure of assisting with the development of a non-profit destination marketing organization to promote and grow Johnson County tourism and business.

MY STORY
I know bankruptcy.
I’ve been there myself.
A bankruptcy attorney who filed bankruptcy himself? Yes. It’s true.
From the outside it appeared I had it all. I wore nice clothes, drove a new car, and lived in a nice home with a beautiful family.
But inside I felt like a lie. Like I was hiding some dirty, embarrassing secret.
I was deep in debt. And too ashamed to ask for help.
I tried digging myself out. I curbed my spending habits. I tried the “snowball” approach. My notepads were filled with creditors, balances, and interest rates. But I was merely treading water.
All the red flags were there. The sleepless nights wondering who to pay next. The 0% balance transfers from card to card. The dread of coming home to a summons taped to the front door.
I wrestled with the decision to file for over two years. Two years of constant stress, worry, anger and frustration. Two years of stress leaching into my marriage.
I finally set my fear and embarrassment aside. I filed for bankruptcy. IT WAS THE BEST FINANCIAL DECISION I’VE EVER MADE.
